EU agrees in membership talks with Bosnia
EU ministers have agreed to open membership talks with Bosnia. An European diplomat said that talks could begin as early as the end of November 2005, but most likely will be started in December. How fast membership talks proceed will depend on Bosnia’s commitment to working with the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
“The opening of negotiations marks an historic moment in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s development, as the first important step towards its establishment of contractual relations with the EU,” they said. The announcement comes on the day that Bosnia marks the 10th anniversary of the Dayton peace agreement which ended more than three years of inter-ethnic war and divided the country into a shaky system of separate but equal entities.”
