Iran nuclear issue close to showdown

French editor sacked after publication

Jacques Lefranc, the editor of France Soir, has been fired by the owner of the paper, a French-Egyptian. The paper has published a cartoon on it’s front page poking fun at Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy figures. Dutch parliament to vote on Afghan mission

After many weeks of discussions between government and parliament, it appears likely that 1400 Dutch troops will be deployed to Southern Afghanistan. Dutch labour party PVDA has dropped most of it’s objections against the mission. The US, NATO, and the UN have put the Netherlands under intense pressure to send troops to the dangerous region.
