The European Union needs to boost it’s global research profile to be able to compete with countries like the US and Japan, and soon China and India. A new agency has been set up under the name of European Research Council (ERC). It’s budget will be 7.5 billion euro to 2013.

France set to become bigggest EU state

Family friendly policies are paying off in France. The country is to overtake Germany as the biggest EU state in terms of population and economic power. France’s fertility rates are the highest in Europe, while Germany’s are some of the lowest.
